Texas & MD Anderson Hospital

Cheesecake Factory...yummmmmmmmmmmmmm...

On Friday we thought we should take it easy...slept in late (thank you Mr. Margarita!), breakfast in bed, massage, and ABSOLUTELY the best meal at the Cheesecake Factory! Another perfect day! Oh, it was raining but we didn't care! (More purple colored walls at Massage salon!)

Then on the fourth margarita, you jump on your hotel beds and act really silly! We had sooo much fun!

Apparently you kiss lizards when you get to the third margarita! Lucky he was cute Lis!

The BEST part of the trip. We found a yummy Mexican place that served FABULOUS margaritas! FOR $2.50!!!! Are ya kiddin? Yes, we had a few...

EVERYTHING seemed to be PURPLE! Did they do this all for me? Wasn't that nice of them?

Waiting for my appt with Dr. Patel. What a nice place MD Anderson was! He was so nice as well. He & his crew really explained things very well to my team! lol.

So the consensus was to follow OSU's treatment protocol and complete the Gem/Tax/Avastin clinical trial. He said he could not be sure where the tumor was attached on the CT/MRI but that the best thing to do would be to shrink it before doing any surgery. He said surgery may not even be needed but there is less than 5% chance it will completely disappear. He would not give me a prognosis (timeframe) because he said it is too rare and not enough data. And he was just too nice to do that! Very positive man! We really liked him!

Good news is it's localized (not spread to my lung). Bad news is it most likely will keep returning. He stated that there are more chemo options down the road if the first combo doesn't work. There is even a drug in Europe that is not available here. Ok, I could deal with a trip to EUROPE!!! :)

So, I will go back to OSU and start my chemo on Wednesday, May 12th. I decided to hold off another week so I could get some more things done. I have to get a CT, EKG, & lab yet. And, oh yeh, ride a bull next weekend! Alright...movin' on! What's next?

Breakfast in the hotel Thursday morning. My team with their new bracelets I got them. Inscription...Together We Laugh, Together We Cry, Together We Fight!!

I guess Mom had to notify Texas that she was here!

Arriving in Texas. Hats are on...where are our boots?
My daughter, Laci. My mom, June. My sister, Lisa, and ME! BTW, WHY am I standing like Grandma Snyder? LOL

It's 2010! Time to Reflect...

Almost 18 months cancer-free...how long will it last? Such an aggressive cancer, this damn Leiomyosarcoma! Every CT/MRI I have had since my completion of radiation in August 2008 was VERY stressful. Even when I didn't realize it, "SCAN"XIETY loomed in the back of head. Knowing that I had a 50% chance of the cancer returning. Wondering if NOT having chemo back then was the right path. Since my doc's hadn't dealt with many sarcomas, did they really know the BEST treatments?

The last year and half has brought me so much joy and contentment. To be a GRANDMA! Wow. I love it! To become so much closer to my family. My sis is my best friend now! My husband and I couldn't be any closer. I get to see my daughter and her family every week when I go to babysit my little Maxton. My stepdaughter moved in with our youngest grandson, Marcus, for 6 months. He is a little angel. My Mom has been so much help to me through all my health issues. My stepdad and I have become closer than I ever thought possible. He has been down the cancer road as well. My Mother-in-law has moved closer to us and our relationship has grown. And then I began working at Samaritan and have some wonderful friends! I love that place so much! It's worth the 45 minute drive.

I HAVE A WONDERFUL LIFE!
And I know how to live it...by the seat of my pants! :)

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive well preserved body, but rather to slide in sideways, chocolate in one hand, a beer (or tequila) in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, screaming "woo hoo, what a ride"

**HEY! DON'T FORGET TO GO TO "OLDER POSTS" JUST ABOVE THIS ON THE RIGHT. LOTS OF COOL INFO THERE TOO! YOU DON'T WANT TO MISS ME WITH TIM MCGRAW!
